CEO INSPIRATION: The famous Acura NSX vehicle: the exceptional work of a craftsman.
I was living in California in the early 1990s when the Acura NSX was released. I remember being aware of this incredibly beautiful vehicle that seemed, in many ways, to be the perfect sports car: fast, powerful, excellent handling, reliable, serviceable, and affordable.
Was that even possible?
Thirty years later, the Acura NSX is even more highly regarded. It is widely appreciated to be one of the most important vehicles to have ever been built. It bettered its rivals in every way; forcing them to change from being (fast) donkeys to the stallions that they are today.
What interests me is:
- Whose energy was behind the NSX?
- Whose genius inspirations came to bear in producing something of such extraordinary quality, so far ahead of anyone else?
- Whose deep and wise insights conceptualised that such a vehicle was possible?
Here’s where you, as a CEO, come in.
The Acura NSX is an example of ‘craft’: deep passion, unwavering standards of excellence, flair, inspiration, discipline and commitment.
This same craft – and all that goes with it – is entirely achievable in business. Business can indeed be beautiful.
It is equally possible in your CEOship. You can lead your business with all the attributes of that Acura NSX production team. You can produce the wonderful creations that they produced, in human form and in organisational form.
You’ve got to believe it’s possible. You’ve got to be a dreamer.
The rest will catch up in time. If you’re drawn to craft and drawn to beauty, choose that now.
Choose it because it’s the brave thing to do.
